BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – 3/6/2018 – The Waites Apartments, Birmingham’s newest residential and mixed-use development, located at the corner of Seventh Avenue South and 21 st Street South, is pleased to announce Smoothie King opened its doors on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017. This is the national smoothie chain’s first location in downtown Birmingham. Smoothie King joins Taco Mama and Farm Burger as open retail tenants.

Occupying approximately 1,600 square feet, Smoothie King of Downtown Birmingham offers a variety of smoothies to fuel each customer’s unique purpose, from Fitness Blends to Slim Blends, Wellness Blends to “Take a Break” Blends. Each of the smoothies crafted and served at Smoothie King is expertly blended with real fruit and fruit juice, nuts or veggies and high-quality proteins, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, offering a healthy alternative to Birmingham’s downtown community at The Waites.

Named after the former Waites Bakery, The Waites features more than 16,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space with other onsite tenants including Club Pilates, Taco Mama, Farm Burger, Smoothie King, Blaze Pizza and Roll Up, a sushi concept. Retail tenants began to open mid-summer 2017. Parking for retail tenants is located in the rear of the property.

Smoothie King’s location at The Waites is one of more than 800 locations across the United States, Korea, Trinidad and Tobago and the Cayman Islands. Smoothie King is open to guests seven days per week, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays.

The Waites is now leasing its luxury apartments situated just steps away from The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and central business district of downtown Birmingham. With the first residents moving in this month, floor plans include one- and two-bedroom apartments ranging from 712 to 1,120 square feet, all equipped with upscale amenities and airy, open-concept living spaces. To pay homage to the history of the site, development company Retail Specialists and Williams Blackstock Architects incorporated pieces of limestone from the former building to be included in the façade. Cooper Construction began demolition of the former site April 2016, with construction of the new building starting June 2016.
