Named after the former Waites Bakery, The Waites features more than 16,000 square feet of ground floor retail space with other onsite tenants including Taco Mama, Farm Burger, Smoothie King and Roll Up, a sushi concept. Retail tenants will start to open mid-summer 2017. Parking for retail tenants will be in the rear of the property.

The Waites is now pre-leasing its luxury apartments situated just steps away from The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and central business district of downtown Birmingham. To pay homage to the history of the site, development company Retail Specialists and Williams Blackstock Architects incorporated pieces of limestone from the former building to be included in the façade. Cooper Construction began demolition of the former site April 2016, with construction of the new building starting June 2016.
